Owner/Coach

Hi! I’m Shannon. I am one of the owners of CrossFit SPT.

Unlike Casie, I got started in the CrossFit world later in life. I have two amazing children, Jordan and Allie, both of which are grown and have started their careers!

I was introduced to CrossFit in 2011 when I was invited to go watch a CrossFit competition. When I saw the women who were competing doing pull ups, I thought it was incredible. Right then, I had my first goal – I want to do a pull up.

At 41 years old, I started CrossFit. Mind you, I did not have any background in athletics, so every day there was something I had never done. Lifting a barbell, pull-ups, kicking upside down… It was intimidating, for sure, but I kept showing up.

I did compete at a higher level within the sport of CrossFit (before the “Masters division” was a thing!) and learned a lot that has made me the coach I am today. I started coaching in 2012 and have never looked back.

I opened CrossFit SPT in 2015 with the intentions of creating a place to come get a great workout in with great people. Simple, but impactful.

One of my favorite parts about a CrossFit class is that you have no idea who you are working out next to. It could be a doctor, a stay-at-home mom, a first responder, a teacher…it doesn’t matter at all. What does matter is that you are going through that hard-ass workout together and that forms a bond.

I love helping our members at CrossFit SPT build confidence in themselves. I truly believe in this lifestyle. Lifting weights, eating well 80% of the time (to drink a beer and eat some goldfish the other 20%), and surrounding yourself with people who will push you outside of your comfort zone is the best way age gracefully.

Casie Garner

Owner/Coach

Holds CrossFit Level 2 Trainer, Gymnastics, Powerlifting, and Weightlifting Certificates.

Hey there! I am Casie, one of the owners at CrossFit SPT.

I started CrossFit in May of 2012 and got my CrossFit Level 1 Certificate in October of that same year. You can say it was love at first lift!

When I started CrossFit, I was a single mother to my daughter, Taylen, an 11-month-old at the time. In 2013 I got married to my husband, Jeremy, and we packed up our family and moved to the great state of Texas from Missouri.

I am one of the lucky ones that started young, as I was only 18 when I started CrossFit. I was very out of shape and overweight when I started (I was always heavy in high school, too). CrossFit taught me to never set limits on myself, gave my body a variety of workouts, and instilled positive nutrition habits. I learned how to eat to fuel my body for the first time in my life!

I have done a lot of competing in the CrossFit-world, both at the local and Regional level (2014 and 2015 on a team).

As much as I love competing, coaching is what I am passionate about. From coaching those who have zero background experience in a gym to athletes wanting to make it to the next level in CrossFit, I love it all.

I feel very fortunate to do what I love every day with the group of people and coaches we have at CrossFit SPT. They are just the best!

Jeremy Garner

Coach
CrossFit Level 2 Trainer

Hey, guys! I am Jeremy Garner, and one of the coaches here at CrossFit SPT.

I was introduced to CrossFit in 2012 when the girl I was talking to invited me to her CrossFit gym. Having played sports all of my life including football at Lindenwood University in St Louis, I thought CrossFit couldn’t be that hard.

I drove 45 minutes to get my butt kicked in a workout. But hey, I ended up marrying that girl (who happens to be Casie) so it all worked out!

I started CrossFit to see a girl, but I continue CrossFit years later because it fills that competitive void I had missed from playing sports. I am always down to hit a local team competition!

I knew a lot of the movements coming into CrossFit like the power clean, deadlift, back and front squats, but the gymnastics movements brought on another level to my fitness. It’s pretty cool how getting better at one will improve the other. I am in better shape overall than I was at the top of my football-game because of CrossFit.

I received my Level 1 in 2013. I enjoy helping people with their olympic movements and muscle ups. When they hit that olympic movement strong and solid, you can see their confidence grow. And when a member gets that first muscle up…their reaction is priceless!!

I coach to help people achieve their fitness goals. Coaching is a part of my week that I look forward to every week.

Caitlin Mayes

Coach
CrossFit Level 1 Trainer.

Hi! I’m Caitlin… part-time coach, full-time athlete/fun-haver at CrossFit SPT!

I started CrossFit in 2011 right after hanging up my tutu and pointe shoes on my professional ballet career. A few short years later I dove at the chance to attend my Level-1 seminar and began coaching CrossFit to the masses.

Mine is a journey from grace to grit- I have an obsessive commitment to technique coming from the discipline and attention to perfection in ballet. To me, if you move well you are able to tap into your full potential and I am happy to help bring that out in each and every athlete that comes into SPT. While I’ve had the privilege of competing on several teams at the regional level, I’m happiest working out alongside the community of our one-of-a-kind SPT family every day.

In my classes, expect to work hard, surprise yourself, and maybe even have some fun along the way! It’s always a great day to have a great day 😊

Carl Stovall

Coach
CrossFit Level 1 Trainer.

Hi y’all!  I’m Carl Stovall, a trainer at CrossFit SPT.

I have been a multi-sport athlete my whole life, which led me to a college career in track and field doing the decathlon at Tarleton.

My wife, Nikki, and I got married in 2005 and we have 3 kids Ryne, Carly, and Tori. All three kids have grown up playing sports and I have been fortunate to coach a few of their teams. It is a great thing to see the life lessons that were instilled in me from sports as a kid, being instilled in my kids.

My personal fitness has always been important to me, but once I got out of college I struggled to stick with any particular method of training.  I jumped around between running distance events, triathlons, and lifting some weights here and there.

In 2018, I agreed to go into a local CrossFit gym with a friend who wanted to try it out. I walked into CrossFit SPT and signed up for their On Ramp course that night. I fell in love with the daily challenge of just getting through a workout.  After seeing rapid improvement in my fitness, strength, and general well-being, I was hooked and just couldn’t get enough.

I show up daily to beat the person I was yesterday. I love competing at local and higher level competitions, to test my fitness against the best. I am one of few people who played collegiate sports who can talk about my “Glory Days” and be in better shape now than I was then. / still feel like I am in my Glory Days.

In 2019, I completed the CrossFit Level 1 training and began coaching classes at SPT.  It brings me great joy to assist our members in achieving their goals. Establishing what the goal is, watching them put in the work, them trusting me, and ultimately achieving their goal is just awesome! No matter what level we are at, we all have goals, we all push each other, and we all do the work together at CrossFit SPT.

Lauren Fulkerson

Level 1 Certificate and CrossFit Kids Certificate.

Hi! I’m Lauren, one of the coaches at CrossFit SPT.

I started CrossFit in 2017 while I lived in Hong Kong before moving to Texas in 2021.  Prior to moving to Hong Kong in 2011, I was a pediatrician in Southern California and have a huge passion for wellness and fitness in both adults and children.  While in Hong Kong, I also trained extensively in conscious and guidance parenting and currently work as a parenting coach. I have four incredible children…twins, Jack and Luke, Sean, and Kate.

I never excelled in athletics or had a passion for any sports when I was growing up.  I began running recreationally in my early 20s, completing a couple of marathons and half-marathons.  While in Hong Kong, I also trained in Muay Thai for a couple of years.  However, once I finally discovered CrossFit at 40 years old, I was completely hooked!!   For someone who never felt confident with anything athletic, CrossFit has given me the opportunity to discover physical and mental capabilities I never thought I had, and I could be pushed beyond anything I imagined. I love challenging myself to hit goals each year, and I am so grateful for the support and encouragement of the CrossFit community.

I obtained both my CrossFit Level 1 Certificate and my CrossFit Kids Certificate in 2021 and began coaching soon after.  I absolutely love coaching and am excited to help people at CrossFit SPT achieve their fitness and wellness goals. I am also looking forward to bringing CrossFit to both kids and teens.

Oscar Lopez

CrossFit Level 1 Coach.

Hello! My name is Oscar.

I started CrossFit in 2015 out of necessity.

I had turned 50, and I was fat and out of shape. My diet was awful. I went to the doctor and had high cholesterol and blood pressure. I knew I needed something to kick my butt and extend my life so I could spend more time with my daughter, Alexia.

What seemed to be an uncomfortable and intimidating experience at first has turned into a daily passion. It was hard to get motivated to go workout at originally, but now it is routine and I do not need motivation to get to the gym. I just go. It doesn’t matter what the workout is, I want to be there. Although gasping for air never stops being a problem, I am pushing harder and getting better than I used to be!

I enter every competition I can. I once even ended up doing a competition I went to watch as a spectator because a competitor was injured and his partner needed a partner to continue on!  I just like doing CrossFit!!!

During Covid I decided to get my Level 1 through the online course.  Casie and Shannon asked if I wanted to coach. Initially I said no…but then I said, “What the hell, I am in.” I love CrossFit SPT and I love CrossFit!

So here I am now, living a much healthier lifestyle and in great shape. I love teaching members to do better and encouraging them to get better. I love CrossFit, I love CrossFit SPT, and I love all of our members, who I count as my friends.
